Znamenja su oduvijek privlačila pažnju astrologa, znanstvenika, religioznih sljedbenika i znatiželjnika, no njihovo istinsko tumačenje nije tako lako. Vjerojatno su iz tog razloga samo vedski astrolozi ostali dosljedni u tumačenju ove učinkovite tehnike, koja ponekad ima prednost nad tumačenjem natalnog horoskopa ili prašne (određenog pitanja). Zašto prelazak mačke preko ceste i prelet vrane s lijeve strane donose nesreću, je li uvijek tako i pod kojim okolnostima ?
Jedno od objašnjenja nalazi se u Šrimad Bhagavatamu: naša materijalna stvarnost i percepcija svijeta pomoću mirisanja, gledanja, kušanja itd. postupno se razvija iz suptilnog stanja uma u grubu stvarnost kad duša pomoću ega unese svoju svjesnost u materijalnu energiju. Zato i stoji izjava da je materijalno postojanje vrsta sna. U snu, početak noćne more prate znamenja nepovoljnih situacija. Isto tako, naša stvarnost ukazuje na početak karmičke noćne more i to pomoću nepovoljnih znamenja ili pojava. Određene suptilne misli ili događaji postupno vode do grubih rezultata. Sve počinje od percepcije. Povoljne energije u vrlini donose povoljne rezultate, a one u neznanju i tami donose negativne rezultate. Miješanjem takvih odlika postupno se očituje određeni događaj, no prije toga nastaju simptomi, kao što kod tijela – prije nego što oboli – dolazi do određenih znakova. Upravo to su znamenja.

Znakovi iz prirode

Shvaćanje znakova iz prirode zahtijeva određenu intuiciju, obučavanje i studiranje spisa. Kako sve to funkcionira može se vidjeti na sljedećem primjeru. U Indiji postoji gušter koji se zove tiktik, jer ispušta takav zvuk. Ako se začuje tijekom razgovora, onda se ono što je zadnje izgovoreno smatra istinom.
Jedna priča to lijepo ilustrira: dvojica mladića htjeli su iskušati đjotišija (astrologa) i dali su mu horoskop mrtvaca. U tom trenutku je gušter tiktik pao sa zida na ventilator i poginuo. Naravno, po čitavoj je sobi nastao kaos. Pogledavši duboko u horoskop, astrolog je zaključio da je to horoskop mrtvaca. Mladići se nisu dali smesti, pa su ga upitali kako je on umro. Upravo u tom trenutku, astrolog je ispred kuće primijetio čovjeka koji je uz velik napor vukao kravu za konopac kojim je bila vezana oko vrata. Astrolog je odmah shvatio ovo znamenje i rekao da se čovjek objesio (što se na kraju ispostavilo točnim). Postoji puno primjera o znamenjima, no navest ću neke poznate iz Indije.

Indijska povijest

Drugi primjer je čuveni događaj iz indijske povijesti. U pokrajini Kerali živio je Maharađa koji je bio poznat astrolog. Bio je tako dobar da je imao puno učenika koji su bili slavni astrolozi. Jednom je trgovac, koji je htio dobro udati svoju kćer, našao odgovarajućeg mladoženju te je predao podatke od kćeri i mladića mnogim astrolozima. Svi su potvrdili da su oni jedno za drugo, čak i Maharađini učenici. No, trgovac je htio da Maharađa osobno provjeri horoskope. Kad je prišao Maharađi, koji se nalazio u društvu svojih učenika astrologa, on je samo malo pogledao u horoskope i rekao da je kombinacija osuđena na propast. Svi su bili zbunjeni, pogotovo trgovac. Otišao je s dvora, mada nezadovoljan ishodom, ali imao je čvrstu vjeru u Maharađu. Nakon nekoliko mjeseci trgovac se vratio i rekao Maharađi da mu je spasio život, jer je u međuvremenu saznao da je potencijalni ženik stradao u nesreći. To bi za njega bila velika nesreća, jer prema tadašnjim običajima više ne bi mogao udati kćer. Kad je trgovac otišao, učenici su pitali Maharađu kako je znao da će se ovo dogoditi. Htjeli su ga to i prije upitati (kako je bio toliko siguran, kad su svi astrolozi u kraljevstvu prognozirali drugačije), ali nisu to učinili iz poštovanja. Maharađa im je odgovorio da je, kad je pogledao oba horoskopa, izdaleka začuo zastrašujući vrisak. Smatrao je to lošim znakom i odmah rekao da je kombinacija loša. Kasnije se raspitao o tomu i saznao da je netko bio pao sa zgrade i poginuo. Svojim učenicima je rekao da “astrolog uvijek ima širom otvorene oči i uši.”

Znamenja i horoskop

Ovi događaji govore o korisnosti znamenja i ponekad imaju prednost pred horoskopom. Ako su rezultati pretkazanja ili znamenja sukladni s horoskopom, onda je to posljedica karme u prošlom životu. Ako nije, onda su to posljedice karme iz ovog života. Isto tako, neka snažna znamenja mogu prevladati u odnosu na ona manja. Npr. čak i ako vrijeme nije jako povoljno i postoje određeni ukazi prema kojima nije dobro krenuti na put, ipak unutarnje stanje uma, kretanje daha, dobro raspoloženje te prisjećanje na Krišnu i Garudu mogu biti jača znamenja ili ukazivati na to da će krajnji rezultat biti povoljan.
